Snana Yatra of Lord Jagannath is held on the full moon day in the Odia Month of Jyestha. It takes place every year in Puri in this special day. In this occasion Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Sudarshan are brought out from the Jagannatha temple and taken in the procession to the snana bedi. There they are ceremonially bathed and decorated for their devotees. Snana Yatra is a bathing festival so this day is also known as  Deva Snana Purnima. This is a traditional ritual of bathing of god & Goddess.

It is an important festival for the Sanatana or Hindu Dharma. As per the Hindu calendar, this is the first occasion, when the deities Jagannath, Balabhadra, Subhadra, Sudarshana and Madanmohana are brought out from the Jagannath Temple at Puri. According to Skanda Purana, the King Indradymna arranged this ceremony for the first time when the idols of the deities were first installed. That’s why this day is believe that this is the auspicious birthday of Lord Jagannath.

In this occasion Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Maa Subhadra and Lord Madanmohan brought out from the Ratna Bedi and taken bath. After bath they are decorated with Hathi Besa or Gajanan Besa (elephant attire) for a public audience. Then they are entered to Anasara pindi. Anasara Pindi means one room which is a secrete room to take rest. After bathing 108 pots of water the God and Goddess feel illness. It means they suffer with fever.

This fever continues 15 days form Snana Purnima,in this period Lord Jagannath eating medicines for cure quickly. This is called Manabia Lila of Lord Gagganath. When they cure they started to journey to their aunt’s house. And this process is called car festival. Car festival of Lord Jagannath is famous in all over world. This is a believe, faith, worship of Lord Jagannath.
